My story

“My role is to support the body’s capacity for self-regulation by enabling my clients to maximize their wellness potential through consistent exercise, a healthy diet, and regular recovery practices.”

Where it began

My sister Venus and I were born prematurely at 25 weeks in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was born with hearing loss, and Venus with cerebral palsy. Growing up, I watched her physical and occupational therapists guide her through exercises and give her tools to take part in her own life, and I saw what skilled, patient care can unlock in a person.

Venus passed away just before we turned fourteen. Her death deepened my resolve to pursue a career in healthcare. I now co-chair the Venus Manly Scholarship, which supports students who, like Venus, have been underestimated.

The road through osteopathic medicine

I earned my M.S. in Biomedical Sciences at Nova Southeastern University and began osteopathic medical training at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine at Auburn University in Alabama. I have lived with ADHD since I was six, and active learning through exercise, spaced repetition, and teaching using the Feynman technique was how I stayed on track. In medical school those strategies stopped working, and I pulled away instead of asking for help. I was not able to continue. Leaving medical school taught me two valuable lessons:

  1. Greatness cannot be achieved in isolation; you need a supportive community to ensure your success.
  2. Asking for help is an act of courage and humility that honors yourself and the other person.

Finding my true calling

What stayed with me from osteopathic medicine was its philosophy: the body is a unit, structure and function are interrelated, and the body has an inherent capacity for self-regulation. That is the principle I coach from.

As a Flexologist, I saw it daily. One client came to me with shoulder stiffness that was limiting her swimming. I assessed her posture and movement, sequenced her stretches, and a week later she told me she was moving better in the pool than she had in years. That was when I realized my purpose: not a white coat, but helping people unlock their own potential, one consistent habit at a time.

I have since developed a comprehensive clinical reference document integrating osteopathic principles and PNF techniques into individualized stretch protocols. It informs the systematic approach I bring to every assisted stretching session.

How I coach

Today, ManlyMovement brings those pieces together into an integrated model of holistic wellness: hybrid calisthenics and specialty coaching for strength, assisted PNF/PIR-MET stretching for improved range of motion, and general nutrition guidance for enhanced performance (Nutrition Guidance services will be available soon.) If you are ready to start, I would be honored to help.
